“Good Commerce performs an enormous role in the economic development of a Country”

The Department of Commerce was established in 1978 with Intermediate Course (I.Com) for students. After two years of its services to locality the demand of Degree level emerged and Commerce as a subject at Degree level (B. Com) was started during the academic year 1980-81. Commerce stream opens a lot of options for students. It provides career options like Banking, Insurance, Chartered Accountant, Cost Accountant, Financial Analyst etc. and it is only possible by the way of quality education in the field of Commerce. Hence, the Department of Commerce aims to provide quality education to enhance employability and to inspire and empower the students to become innovative leaders and entrepreneurs through curricular and co-curricular activities.

The Department of Commerce has six faculty members lead by Mr. Samir Ranjan Nayak who joined in the year 1990 further two more experienced faculties Mr. Bikram Padhan and Mr. Bikash Kumar Naik who joined in the year 1995 & 1996 respectively. The Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha has sponsored three lecturers through State Selection Board (SSB) named Mrs. Dipika Kerketa next two faculty members Mr. Shiva Trivedi and Mr. Abinash Naik who have joined in the year 2016 and 2022 respectively.

The Department has its own room and necessary equipments for providing valuable education. The students visit industries/sites for collection of data required for their project works. The Department teaches the syllabi through learner-centered teaching methods such as group discussions, case studies, field visits and project work. The Department organizes workshops seminars and extramural lecturers by inviting various faculty members from reputed organizations.
